GRAND ARMY PLAZA

BROOKLYN, NYC

For an important civic memorial and the gateway to Prospect Park, the design strengthens the essence of place by introducing activities of the contemporary city continuing the strategy of layering employed by the original designers of the plaza.

Each system of pedestrians, cars, and subway uses different strata; the landscape connects them while minimizing conflict. At ground level, open space provides for various activities and visually connects the subway station below the plaza. Above, the existing berms extend to create a landscape that bridges over the busy roads.

The design was awarded an Honorable Mention.
