EAST HAMPTON, NY
The design is for an addition to a weekend home on Long Island. The main space is a music room designed for playing a very special Fazioli piano. Acoustics and natural sunlight play determinant roles in the design with studies done to optimize sound and to provide abundant natural light to the space while preventing direct light from touching the piano. Balancing intimacy and exposure, the music room is nearly invisible from the entrance to the house but with large glass doors opens to the backyard and an outdoor audience.
The strategically placed windows provide surprising, unexpected views of the forest and sky. Inside undulating built in shelving echo the shape of the piano, architecture in harmony with music.
